207 E. Gwinnett Street is a beautifully restored historic residence with a story deeply connected to Savannah and the people who shaped the city.

The property was acquired by Mary Elizabeth Jaudon in 1884. Mary came from the prominent Scudder family, a name long associated with Savannah architecture and building. Her grandfather, Amos Scudder, was a noted architect and builder whose work included the Savannah Theatre and First Presbyterian Church. Mary and her husband, William A. Jaudon, raised four children, and city directories document the family living at the Gwinnett Street property by 1889.

William Jaudon was a Civil War veteran who later became active in Savannah commerce. He worked in the clothing business and, following his death in 1912, Mary herself was listed as president of the Jaudon Clothing Company in 1914—an especially interesting chapter in the life of a Savannah woman of her era.

The home passed through a succession of owners after the Jaudons sold the property in 1908. Its documented chain of title stretches through generations of Savannah history, while later owners undertook the preservation and rehabilitation that helped carry the residence into the present.

Today, the house retains the architectural character that makes historic Savannah so distinctive. Original heart pine floors, approximately 12-foot ceilings, historic fireplaces, ornate plaster details, gracious proportions and the striking bay windows speak to its nineteenth-century origins. Thoughtful restoration and updated systems, kitchens and baths allow the home to function comfortably for modern life without sacrificing the qualities that give it such a remarkable sense of place.

The property also offers unusual flexibility, with a three-unit configuration that can function as a grand single-family residence, along with a carriage residence and courtyard.

Perhaps most compelling is the continuity between the house and its history. More than a century after the Jaudon family called Gwinnett Street home, the residence remains an enduring part of Savannah’s architectural landscape—beautifully restored, carefully preserved and ready for its next chapter.
